DuPage County Democrats’ social media manager loses job over Waukesha, Rittenhouse tweets

CHICAGO (AP) – The Democratic Party social media official in DuPage County, outside of Chicago, was fired after she compared the driver of an SUV who drove into a Christmas parade in the suburb of Milwaukee in Kyle Rittenhouse.

Mary Lemanski sarcastically said the driver who police said killed five people and injured at least 48 others in Waukesha was acting in self-defense.

A jury acquitted Rittenhouse of all charges on Friday in the fatal Kenosha shooting in 2020 after Rittenhouse testified he was acting in self-defense. Lemanski says she resigned, but the county Democratic Party chairman says she was “let go” and condemned her tweets.

The DuPage County Democratic Party issued the following statement.

The DuPage County Democratic Party immediately severed all ties with Mary Lemanski once it learned of her callous and objectionable messages. She does not speak for us and we unequivocally reject her statements about the tragic events that took place yesterday in Waukesha. As a party, we denounce violence of all kinds. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this heinous act, which shocked and saddened us all.. “
