LAFAYETTE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, Kevondric Fezia, 26, of Houston, Tx. was convicted by a federal jury in Lafayette, Louisiana, of sex trafficking charges.
On April 22, 2021, an indictment was returned by a federal grand jury charging Feiza and Calista Jenee Winfrey, 23, of Orange, Tx. The indictment charged Feiza and Winfrey with one count of sex trafficking and Fezia with one count of attempting to entice a minor into prostitution. Winfrey pleaded guilty before trial.
Shortly after Feiza’s trial began this week, a federal jury found him guilty on both counts after a short period of deliberation. Reportedly, Feiza recruited underage women into prostitution and began communicating with a 14-year-old woman in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Feiza was well aware when he started communicating with the woman that she was underage, but was still pursuing her. and tried to convince her that she would make a lot of money prostituting herself for him.
On February 13, 2021, Winfrey and Feiza drove a Mercedes Benz and picked up the underage victim and took her to a hotel in Beaumont, Texas, and introduced her to another prostitute who worked for Feiza who was 16 years old. Winfrey engaged in multiple acts of prostitution in the presence of the underage victim at the hotel, continually trying to convince the underage victim that she should also engage in prostitution.
Feiza took photos of the underage girls and other prostitutes he employed and posted them on his Instagram account as an advertisement, along with a visible geotag telling those who saw the advertisement where to go to engage in sex. sexual acts with girls.
When the victim’s grandmother realized she had run away from home, she started looking at the child’s social media accounts and discovered the communication between her granddaughter and Fezia . The grandmother then contacted the police.
Authorities identified Fezia and located him in his apartment in Houston with other prostitutes and the underage victim. Fezia attempted to hide the underage victim in the closet, but she and the other 16-year-old victim were found.
Fezia and Winfrey each face a maximum sentence of life in prison, no less than five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing of Fezia and Winfrey is scheduled for Thursday, June 23, 2022.
