Looking for a job? Orange County hosts career fair to fill dozens of public works positions – WFTV

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla .– Orange County hopes to hire early to keep operations running smoothly.

A job fair is organized at the Apopka maintenance center.

The county said it was difficult to fill positions and could use the aid.

The career fair will speed up the process, with applicants interviewed in person. They will also take a skills test using the equipment at the site.

Some people left with a job in sight.

“It has been a challenge to fill the positions,” said Eduardo Avellaneda, of the Orange County Public Works Department.

The Orange County Public Works Department is understaffed.

“Right now we have 72 vacancies available for this event,” he said. “We have a total of 84 vacancies in our division.

The department had to outsource services.

“Sometimes if it is an emergency the prices obviously go up,” Avellaneda said. “So we pay a little more than we do internally. For the most part it’s a little higher, but nothing very significant.

Avellaneda said there were positions for masons, equipment operators and maintenance workers.

The county is offering a $ 500 login bonus to people who already have their CDL license.
