Man City legend Vincent Kompany vying for Burnley manager job, Clarets fans told to expect big changes with ‘a philosophy that couldn’t be further from Sean Dyche’

Man City legend Vincent Kompany is in talks to succeed Sean Dyche as Burnley manager, and fans have been told to expect the Belgian if he takes charge of Turf Moor.

Kompany confirmed his departure as Anderlecht boss on Wednesday after spending three years at the club, and is now expected to be appointed by the relegated Premier League club.

Kompany returned to Anderlecht in 2019, first as a player-coach before announcing his retirement a year later to focus on coaching.

The 36-year-old is still at the start of his managerial career, but European football pundit Andy Brassell told talkSPORT his style of play is a total contract with what Burnley have been used to over the course of the season. last decade under Dyche.

Brassell gave an insight into Kompany’s ethos during his reign with the Belgian giants and admitted that if the Clarets tackle the City legend there will be huge stylistic changes underway at Turf Moor.

“His philosophy couldn’t be farther from Sean Dyche’s,” Brassell told Kick Off.

“They have sometimes been criticized, Anderlecht, for not advancing the ball quickly enough. They love possession so it feels like it would be a real 180 the way they have [Burnley] done things over the last decade.

“He plays with three at the back, he plays with four at the back. He needs a player on the pitch, like a lot of coaches do, who is like his coach on the pitch – that player while he was at Anderlecht was Josh Cullen.

Burnley have been under caretaker manager Mike Jackson since Dyche was sacked in April.

Jackson led Burnley to 11 points in his eight games in charge but could not prevent the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season.

Despite Jackson’s best efforts and popularity at Turf Moor, Burnley appear set to appoint an outside candidate to boost their chances of an immediate Premier League return, and Brassell believes Kompany has the right credentials for the job.

He said: “On the one hand you think about the name and how impressive it is and you look at the work he has done at Anderlecht and think, if they want to have a restart with a coach who has the used to doing it in tough conditions, there are plenty of reasons to recommend Kompany.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt about that because he didn’t really have any money to spend, even though they brought in €45m between them.”

With Kompany high on Burnley’s shortlist, Brassell revealed the 36-year-old has had a host of suitors across Europe but sees why he could possibly opt for a return to English football.

“Which I find quite interesting, even if the jury is still out on him as a coach – and they would be, he’s still young – he’s only been in the job for three years,” he said. he added.

“The other clubs that were interested as well as Burnley; we know he has the family convection with Manchester with his in-form wife there, his kids born there, everything else, so it seems like a lifestyle.

“But Borussia Mönchengladbach were interested, Wolfsburg were interested, so it’s not like they don’t have options.”
