National Mission for Clean Ganga Receives Special Jury Prize at 9th FICCI Water Awards

New Delhi [India]March 6 (ANI): National Mission for Clean Ganga received the Special Jury Prize at the 7th India Industry Water Conclave and 9th FICCI Water Awards held on a virtual platform from March 2-3.

The FICCI Water Awards Jury, made up of eminent personalities such as Dr. Mihir Shah, Professor Emeritus of Shiv Nadar University and Chairman of the Jury; Teacher. AK Gosain, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT, Delhi; Dr. Himanshu Kulkarni, Founding Trustee and Executive Director of the Advanced Center for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM); and VK Madhavan, Managing Director of WaterAid India, acknowledged the importance of NMCG’s work in rejuvenating the Ganges.
The citation with the award reads: “The jury wishes to recognize the tremendously important work that NMCG is engaged in to bring about a paradigm shift in water management, even as they strive to revive the The jury would like to stress the need to work even further by involving the main stakeholders to build a real Jan Andolan around the Ganges river and paying greater attention to bringing together all the departments and agencies whose joint efforts are needed to revive the Ganges River, recognizing that rejuvenating the river requires working across its entire river landscape, with its interconnected hydrological and ecological systems, not just limited to the main course of the river, but also including all the different stream orders and their watersheds, as well as the aquifers that supply baseflows to the fl river.”
The quote highlighted the complexity of the task of rejuvenating the entire Ganges basin and the importance of engaging with various stakeholders, especially the connection between people and the river, which forms the basis of the NMCG’s approach to this difficult task. (ANI)
