UPDATE: Portland Police identify the female victim of the May 8 shooting in Southeast Portland.

Portland Police have identified the female victim of the May 8 murder on the Eastbank Esplanade in southeast Portland.

The victim is Ash Smith, 31. His family has been notified.

The suspect, Wyatt Storm Belcher, 25, was indicted by a Multnomah County grand jury on one count of second-degree murder with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon (weapon fire).

According to the Portland Police Bureau, at 11:43 p.m. on May 8, officers from Central Precinct were dispatched to report a shooting on the walkway along the east bank of the Willamette River at Southeast Salmon Street. When officers arrived, they found a deceased woman and detained one person as part of the investigation.
