TITLE: A research grant – Masters

It is now open a call for a research grant within the framework of the project EAPA_232/2016 INTEGRATE – “Integrate Aquaculture: an eco-innovative solution to foster sustainability in the Atlantic Area”, Interreg Atlantic Area Program European Regional Development Fund (European Union), with the following conditions:

Field of research : Environmental Sciences

Admission requirements: Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in biological sciences, environmental sciences or related fields. Preferred research experience in multi-trophic aquaculture production systems, in multivariate data analysis and in the development of ecological models in different environments, for example in Stella Isee Systems or equivalent, as well as in the writing of reports and scientific papers, writing proficiency and spoken English, taking into account the University of Algarve Research Grant Regulations

Candidates must be enrolled in a degree course of study or in a postgraduate course that does not confer a university degree, taught at the University of the Algarve, except in cases where there is no training offer at the UAlg in the field of competition.

Work plan: the candidate will be integrated into the project EAPA_232/2016, the objective of this contract being that the grant holder collaborates in the compilation and analysis of information related to the biological and ecological processes that take place in the multi-trophic aquaculture systems in earthen ponds. , in coastal and lagoon areas, and in the further development of ecological models using Isee Systems – Stella Architect software. It will also be the responsibility of the fellow to collaborate in the writing of reports and scientific articles.

Place of work: The work will be developed at the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Algarve, together with the researcher Sofia Gamito, principal investigator of the SCORE project and coordinator.

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a first contract for a period of 9 months, starting in September 2022. The contract can be renewed until 30/06/2023, taking into account the regulations for research grants of the UAlg. ( )

Amount of monthly alimony: The monthly alimony corresponds to 1,144.64 euros. Alimony will be paid monthly by bank transfer. (

The selection criteria will be the following: evaluation of the study program, interview, with the respective score.

In accordance with No. 2 of Article 11 of the FCT Research Grant Rules, the evaluation and selection of applicants is based solely on the merit of the applicant. The evaluation process will include an interview with the three candidates with the highest scores, weighting a maximum of 20% of the total score. The final assessment of candidates will be 30% for Academic Qualification (AQ) and 70% for Knowledge and Further Training (KCT). In the case of an interview, the overall assessment of the course will be weighted at 80% and the interview at 20%.

The curricular evaluation will be expressed quantitatively from 0 to 20 points, corresponding to the points obtained in AQ (30%) and KCT (70%):

a) The academic qualification (AQ) is the average of the final grades of the bachelor’s and master’s degree (0-20 points);

b) Additional knowledge and additional training (KCT) will be scored from 0 to 20, corresponding to the addition of the values ​​obtained in the following objective criteria as follows:

1) Knowledge and experience in Aquaculture and IMTA (Integrated Multi-trophic Aquaculture) (0-4);

2) Knowledge and experience in ecological modeling (0-4);

3) Knowledge and experience in multivariate data analysis (0-4);

4) Knowledge and experience in science reporting and dissemination (0-4);

5) Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English (0-4)

The tender jury will be composed of the following members:

Publication and notification of results: the final results will be published by means of a list ordered according to the final mark and displayed in a visible and public place in building 8, Faculdade de Ci ncias e Tecnologia do Campus de Gambelas, Universidade do Algarve , and communicated to the candidates by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.

Deadline for applications and submission forms: the call is open from 08/10/2022 to 08/24/2022

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

Official ID (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you must present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the start date of the scholarship, each of which can be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. Copy of the qualification certificates of the university degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all the subjects taken;

If the doctorate was issued by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the rules established in Legislative Decree no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be completed by the termination deadline for submitting the application. If the completed process is not found before the end of the application period, the candidate must prove that he has applied for recognition of the diploma.

– Declaration of the supervisor taking responsibility for the supervision of the work plan, in accordance with article 5 -A of the status of the scientific researcher, as well as ensuring the conditions necessary for the development of the work plan and in accordance with the article 13 of the status of Scientific Research Officer;

Complaints and appeals Deadlines and procedures

On the decision to grant the research grant, the candidates may, if they wish, make observations on the hearing of the interested parties, within 10 working days, under the conditions provided for by the code of administrative procedure. .

Of the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation jury, candidates may lodge a complaint with the authority, within 10 working days.

The final decision of the evaluation committee can be appealed to the rector within 15 working days following the corresponding notification.

Scholarship contract With the selected candidate(s), and after receiving all the required documentation, a scholarship contract will be signed in accordance with the attached model. Evaluation of the scholarship holder At the end of each period of the duration of the contract scholarship, the activity developed by the scholarship holder is evaluated by the supervisor, applying the following criteria, in accordance with the attached model:

a) Execution of the proposed work plan (40%)

b) Quality of the work developed (40%)

c) Ability to work in a team (20%)

The University of Algarve reserves the right to cancel this application procedure if, by any means, the celebration of the contract with the funding entity is not established.
