OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION UNDER THE CONDITIONS PROVIDED BY THE ALGARVE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP REGULATIONS

1 Master’s Research Grant

It is now open a call for 1 research grant (Master) within the framework of the project UIDB/05183/2020 MED Research Center MED-UAlg, financed by national funds included in the budget of the FCT and, when eligible, co-financed by Community funds, under the following conditions:

Field of research : Agricultural sciences

Admission Requirements: Applicants should hold a Master’s degree (preferably in food engineering, food technology) or related fields, with experience in microbiological analysis, thermal processing and emerging non-thermal preservation processes , as well as knowledge of the use of STATA software. in mathematical modeling. Familiarity with the field of processing plant products is also important, in accordance with the Research Fellowship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, depending on the type of fellowship to be awarded (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019DR.pdf).

Candidates must be enrolled in a degree course or in a post-graduate course that does not confer a university degree.

Workplan:

The objective will be to test the application of an emerging technology, continuous UV-C radiation alone and in combination with heat treatment in the pasteurization of a tomato sauce and juice through the search for a optimal pasteurization process applied to these products (milder in terms of heat) which ensure a 5D reduction of the target microorganism (Bacillus coagulans) with four main tasks: (i) Isothermal heat treatment, ii) Dynamic treatment, (iii) UV treatment -C, and (iv) Combined thermal treatment + UV -C treatment.

Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Researcher, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, in the current wording conferred by Decree Law No. 123/2019, of August 28, and the University Research Grant Regulation from the Algarve (https://files.dre.pt/2s/2021/10/210000000/0013700149.pdf) and the Foundation for Science and Technology Research Grant Regulations (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019DR.pdf).

Place of work: The work will be developed at the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development of the University of the Algarve, under the supervision of Professor Maria Margarida Cort s Vieira and Professor C lia Quintas.

Duration of grant: The grant will have a contract for a period of 12 months, starting in October 2022. The contract is not renewable.

Amount of monthly alimony: The monthly alimony corresponds to 1144.64 euros. Alimony will be paid monthly by bank transfer. (https://files.dre.pt/2s/2022/03/057000000/0023900239.pdf).

The selection criteria will be as follows: In accordance with No. 2 of Article 11 of the FCT Research Grants Regulations, the evaluation of the merit of the applicant will relate to the Curriculum vitae evaluation (80%) according to the following criteria: A1 – C x average mark of the Master, (C=1 for Food Technology or Food Engineering, C=0.5 for related fields); A2 knowledge of microbiological analysis, thermal treatment and emerging non-thermal preservation processes, as well as knowledge of the use of STATA software in mathematical modelling; A3- research experience (participation in research projects), A4- publication of research journal articles with peer review) e A5- knowledge of English. Criteria A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5 have the following weights: 30%, 20%, 20%, 20% and 10% respectively.

The evaluation process may include an interview, with all or some of the candidates selected by the jury, weighing a maximum of 20% of the total score.

The tender jury will be composed of the following members:

Publication and notification of results:

The final results will be published by means of a list ordered according to the final mark and displayed in a visible and public room of the Human Resources Services of the University of the Algarve and communicated to the candidates by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.

Deadline for submission of applications and submission forms: The call is open from 08/01/2022 to 08/16/2022.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

Official ID (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you must present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the start date of the scholarship, each of which can be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous ones must be issued during the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the grant;

Copy of the qualification certificates of the university degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all the subjects taken.

If the doctorate was issued by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the rules established in Legislative Decree no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be completed by the termination deadline for submitting the application. If the completed process is not found before the end of the application period, the candidate must prove that he has applied for recognition of the diploma.

Tax identification number (NIF), if you have a nationality other than Portuguese, it must be submitted during the scholarship contract phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the scholarship;

– The supporting documents certifying that the candidate meets all the conditions required for this scholarship, namely the certificate of registration for a degree course or post-graduate training;

– Declaration of the supervisor taking responsibility for the supervision of the work plan, in accordance with article 5 -A of the status of the scientific researcher, as well as ensuring the conditions necessary for the development of the work plan and in accordance with the article 13 of the status of Scientific Research Officer;

-Declaration of acceptance of the grant;

-Declaration of commitment specifying the exclusivity regime

Complaints and appeals Deadlines and procedures

On the decision to grant the research grant, the candidates may, if they wish, make observations on the hearing of the interested parties, within 10 working days, under the conditions provided for by the code of administrative procedure. .

Of the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation jury, candidates may lodge a complaint with the authority, within 10 working days.

The final decision of the evaluation committee can be appealed to the rector within 15 working days of the respective notification.

Grant contract

With the selected applicant(s) and after receipt of all documents, a grant contract will be concluded in accordance with the attached model.

The University of Algarve reserves the right to cancel this application procedure if, by any means, the celebration of the contract with the funding entity is not established.
