Serving our community in 2021: how 5 Star Media Group is committed to making it a better year

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – 2021 has been a busy year with many ups and downs, but the community has done what it always does by coming together and showing off for each other. 5 Star Media Group must be part of these efforts.

5 Star Media Group includes nine radio stations and Clarksville Now, and chief executive Katie Gambill said with that influence comes a lot of responsibility.

“This year has not been without challenges, but instead of doing nothing we decided not to just survive a difficult year, (but) we were going to thrive,” said Gambill. “We took this opportunity not only to grow (within the company), but also to determine how we can serve our community and give back.”

Here’s a look back at 2021 and what the community helped us accomplish.

Love letters: We collected and distributed thousands of Valentine’s Day cards and letters for the elderly in nursing homes that had been closed to visitors during the pandemic.

Rainbow Radiothon Camp: Beaver 100.3 FM has raised over $ 59,000 for Camp Rainbow, a summer camp for children whose health issues prevent them from attending regular camps.

Pour love for Blackhorse: An iconic restaurant in the region suffered massive fire damage and organized a fundraiser to support employees. We hosted and promoted the event.

Wet nose Wednesday: Each week, Monica highlights a different pet from Montgomery County Animal Control on Rewind 94.3.

Qt-is Pet: Each week, Sari and Tom from Q108 invite Cats R Us or the Humane Society to present an adoptable pet. Each animal presented was adopted from a local household.

Pass and go: We are supporting a local event that rewards a lucky high school student with a new car. Every student who successfully completes an AP course has a chance to win.

Stuff the bus: Tens of thousands of dollars in school supplies were collected for the Montgomery County Teachers Warehouse, which teachers use to secure school supplies.

Waverly Flood Relief: Over $ 10,000 worth of school supplies collected and delivered to schools in Waverly after a devastating flood.

Fight hunger: 26,000 pounds of food and $ 7,000 raised for the Manna Café.

Turkeys for the troops: Every Thanksgiving year, we promote and help distribute free turkeys to active duty military personnel, veterans and their families. 1,500 turkeys were distributed this year.

Toy driving: This year, 5 Star Media Group brought together over 1,400 children’s toys for Christmas. These donations were intended to support the families of Sanctuary Inc., Toys for Tots, Homeffa Foundation, Crisis 211, Radical Mission Compassionate Ministries-Warm Souls Christmas and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville.

Beaver 100.3 Tornado Relief: Thousands of dollars and supplies were collected and delivered to those affected by the tornadoes that swept through Kentucky in December.
