Waukesha Parade suspect escorted out of court after violent outbursts

Darrell Brooks went from sleepy in his hearing Friday to outbursts, yelling at Judge Jennifer Dorow and sheriff’s deputies. Brooks commented on the policy and told MPs not to touch him. The judge said she would not tolerate the outburst, which could result in Brooks being found in contempt of court. When attorneys began discussing potential jurors and who to strike for cause before jury selection, Brooks asked to be taken back to his jail cell. Brooks told the judge he wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to be in court. The judge allowed him to leave and the lawyers continued. In two days of hearing, the judge dropped 6 counts of homicide by drunken use of a vehicle. Against the defense’s wishes, the judge allows the state to use Brooks’ interrogation beginning the night of the parade and the next day while Brooks was in police custody. The trial begins on October 3. Just over 300 people are expected for the selection of the jury. Brooks faces a life sentence if convicted of intentional homicide.
