‘We think the court made mistakes’: Amber Heard files appeal

Amber Heard’s attorney formally appealed the $10.3 million libel judgment in Fairfax County Court in Virginia on Thursday.

“We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. We are therefore appealing the verdict,” a spokesperson for Heard said, according to TMZ. “While we realize today’s filing will light the bonfires on Twitter, we must take steps to ensure both fairness and justice.”

Heard was ordered to pay Johnny Depp after the jury voted in Depp’s favor following a 6-week trial.

Heard was firm in his intention to appeal and has now taken the necessary formal steps to fulfill his promise, according to TMZ.

This isn’t Heard’s first challenge to the courts: She faced a setback on July 13 when a court denied her request for a new trial, according to TMZ. Heard alleged that a member of the jury committed jury fraud after accepting a summons that may have been intended for his father. The father and son shared the same first and last name, but it was the father who was called as a juror, TMZ reported. ‘The jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and reached a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself repeatedly defamed Mr. Depp,’ Johnny Depp’s rep said. , according to TMZ. “We remain confident in our case and that this verdict will stand.”

During the trial, Heard and Depp made explosive allegations of abuse against each other. The jury ultimately ruled in favor of Depp’s testimony.
